The Florida East Coast Dachshund Club was founded to promote and protect the Dachshund breed. Dachshunds can participate and be titled in AKC Earthdog Tests where they show how they can work underground (leads up to a Master Earthdog title), AKC Field trials where they show how they can follow a bunny's track (leads to a Field Champion title), AKC Conformation (leads to a Conformation Championship title), Obedience, Rally, Agility, Tracking, Blood Trailing, Coursing Ability, Barn Hunt, Canine Good Citizen, and Therapy Dog. Our members are dedicated to helping to educate the public about this most versatile canine companion.
The smooth variety has a smooth, shiny, double coat that protects this active hound in its daily activities.
The wire haired variety has a harsh outer coat with a dense under coat that protects the dog from briars, brambles, and the vageries of the elements as it does the work it was bred to do.
The long haired variety has an elegant, sleek, long double coat that covers the body and a distinctive flag tail that it wags as it trots about.
The image to the right shows some of the breeds that Dachshund scholars believe were used to come up with the three coat varieties and sizes we see today.
